The community

The beautiful Detroit Lakes area has 412 lakes within a 25-mile radius and offers some of Minnesota's premier outdoor recreation. Detroit Lakes has a population of approximately 8,600 that increases to an unofficial estimate of 13,000 in the summer.

Summer is busy time in lakes country with fishing, water sports, golfing on 14 challenging area courses and some of the largest events in the region. The Fourth of July brings thousands to the city's mile-long beach to enjoy the water, fun and free fireworks show.

Fall and winter bring ice fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, cross country skiing and downhill skiing. The community has a vibrant downtown district, and it's a short drive to the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area.
